California has adopted Senate Bill (SB) No. 407, which has been enacted into the state civil code for purposes of ensuring that the water supply in the state continues to be reliable and continues to support the economic and environmental health of California. The bill applies to single-family residential, multi-family residential, and commercial properties built prior to 1994. The bill requires replacement of non-compliant plumbing fixtures with water-conserving fixtures by January 1, 2017, for single-family residential properties and January 1, 2019, for multi-family residential and commercial properties. This legislation also impacts building modifications that get final approval or are permitted after January 1, 2014.
