BUILDER, the software system used by Marx Okubo’s Atlanta office for the evaluation of over 500 buildings for the landmark Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) project, has been profiled in the September issue of Engineering News Record (ENR).
The asset management software developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will now be required for all military facilities of the Department of Defense within the next five years. Edward Bernard, Vice President and Southeast Regional Manager for Marx Okubo, was interviewed for the article and said, “It’s a great program. It tracks the components and sub-components of a building.”
This is done by what is called “knowledge-based” asset management, whereby every system of the building is inventoried by material, age, and quantity. After inspection to document existing conditions, BUILDER then models future life cycles and predicts the best time to repair or replace a component. “BUILDER finds that ‘sweetspot’ where you can spend money to extend that life,” said Mr. Bernard.
Marx Okubo’s TCSG project was the country’s largest non-military Facility Condition Assessment utilizing BUILDER. It is a sophisticated application that is useful to any public or private entity with multiple buildings.
