Simon Yavari, PhD, PE, SE, PMP

Simon, Senior Associate in the West region, and Director of Structural Engineering, performs structural forensic investigations, property condition evaluations, seismic risk assessments per ASTM E2026, ASTM E2557, ASCE 41, and FEMA 154, pre-construction structural drawings reviews, and owner’s representation services.

His structural engineering experience of more than 20 years includes analysis, design, and construction observation for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Prior to joining Marx Okubo, Simon was an associate and project manager at Englekirk Structural Engineers, where he managed and performed analysis and design of several new mid- and high-rise multifamily and office buildings, as well as multiple structural repair projects in Southern California.

As part of his doctoral research, Simon conducted experimental and analytical studies on seismic performance of existing non-ductile concrete moment frames with participants from U.S., Canada and Taiwan.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from BIHE University, a a master’s degree in structural engineering from Carleton University, and a doctorate in structural and earthquake engineering from the University of British Columbia in Canada. Simon is a licensed professional civil engineer and a licensed structural engineer in the state of California. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and American Concrete Institute.
