Recently, Marx Okubo's Supriya Shrestha, Senior Project Manager, attended along with Eliseo B., Chief of Strategic Growth & Special Operations, and Lisa V., Senior Human Resources Manager of Horizon Treatment Services, a valuable training exercise hosted by the OAKLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT at the existing building of the future site of the Telegraph Recovery Center, ahead of its planned demolition.

Marx Okubo is proud to provide owner's representative and project management services for Horizon Services at the proposed Telegraph Recovery Center, a future two building, four-story, 33,000-square-foot facility designed to house 109 beds dedicated to detox and residential treatment. Funded through the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program, the center will operate 24/7, expanding access to critical behavior health and recovery services for individuals in urgent need across the Oakland community.

Observing the existing fire department building in its final phase before demolition provided a unique perspective, as it has continued to serve a meaningful purpose--supporting valuable hands-on training for first responders who serve and protect the community every day. This experience provided valuable insight into how the space functioned - revealing user patterns, constraints, and inefficiencies that can inform a more thoughtful, efficient, and purpose-driven design for its next chapter focused on behavioral health.
