Gerard, Vice President and an architect in Marx|Okubo’s West region, is engaged in design and constructability reviews, property condition assessments, reviews of construction drawings, project management, owner’s representation services, periodic construction observation services and accessibility reviews..

Gerard brings over 29 years of experience in sustainable design, production, project management and construction administration. Prior to joining Marx|Okubo, he was the higher education lead for HMC Architects in Northern California and managed the firm’s Oakland office. His project experience includes civic/ public, hospitality, higher education, science, multifamily/mixed-use and corporate commercial projects. Gerard has worked in all project phases, handling the planning, entitlements, funding, design, bidding and construction of numerous university and college projects. In addition, he is well-versed in several project delivery systems including traditional design-bid-build, design-build and CMAR, and is trained in LEAN project delivery. Known for his real-world zero net energy (ZNE) expertise, he is regularly invited to present ZNE case studies at workshops and conferences. Gerard has hands-on knowledge and experience on various building codes, regulations and standards, including LEED and the Living Building Challenge.

Gerard holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is a licensed architect in California and is a DBIA Designated Design-Build Professional, LEED Accredited Professional with the BD+C specialty and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
